Give Basic Needs to hold major medical outreach in Tamale

Give Basic Needs, an international nonprofit organisation, has announced a large-scale medical outreach scheduled for 22 November 2025 at its Tamale office in Northern Ghana.

The initiative is part of the organisation’s ongoing efforts to improve access to essential healthcare under its broader basic needs agenda, which also focuses on food security, shelter support, and medical care. The outreach will provide free medical screenings and public health education aimed at strengthening community well-being.

The event continues Give Basic Needs’ record of impactful health interventions across Northern Ghana. Previous outreaches have benefited thousands, including:

  • Gmanicheri and neighbouring villages in the Gushegu District, where over 1,500 people received critical medical services.
  • Gusheigu Township, which saw health support extended to about 2,500 individuals.
  • Students of Business Senior High School, Tamale Senior High School, Northern School of Business, Gushegu Senior High School, and Savelugu Senior High School, where over 2,000 young people underwent free screenings.

This year’s outreach is designed as a collaborative effort across Ghana’s health sector. Give Basic Needs has invited other medical and nonprofit organisations to participate by setting up information booths and supporting the screening process. At least three partner institutions are expected to join, helping to expand the reach of essential care and resources.

According to the organisation, this joint framework will enhance healthcare delivery capacity in underserved communities across the Northern Region.

The outreach will offer screenings and education in key health areas, including:

  • Infectious and Contagious Diseases: Testing for malaria, hepatitis B and C, HIV/AIDS, and typhoid.
  • Women’s Health: Distribution of sanitary products and education on breast self-examination and menstrual hygiene.
  • General Health Education: Sensitisation on hygiene, disease prevention, and wellness management — aligning with the organisation’s ongoing Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programmes.

The initiative comes amid growing concern over limited access to primary health services in parts of Ghana. Through its three operational pillars – Food, Shelter, and Medical Care – Give Basic Needs continues to complement national efforts in improving community health and resilience.

Guided by its philosophy, “Small Acts Big Happy,” the organisation aims to reduce suffering and spread happiness through practical, community-focused interventions.

About Give Basic Needs

It operates under the Colussi Family Foundation, a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) organisation founded in 2021.
