The Government of Ghana has officially endorsed the findings and recommendations of the Bawku Conflict Mediation Report presented by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as part of efforts to restore lasting peace and stability in the conflict-affected area.

In a statement issued by the Presidency on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, government said it had carefully reviewed the report and fully accepted its conclusions, describing it as a comprehensive, fact-based roadmap for achieving reconciliation and social cohesion in Bawku and surrounding communities.

Government reaffirmed the legal position consistently upheld by the Supreme Court, recognising Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II as the lawful Bawku Naba. It stressed that no individual or group is permitted under any circumstances to challenge his authority or legitimacy.

As part of the mediation outcomes, government accepted the recommendation that Alhaji Seidu Abagre, who was installed as a rival claimant to the Bawku chieftaincy, be recalled to Nalerigu by the Nayiri to assume an alternative traditional role. Authorities said arrangements would be made to ensure his safe movement and continued availability to receive directives from the Nayiri.

The statement also announced the establishment of a GH¢1 billion Bawku Revitalisation Fund, to be disbursed between 2026 and 2028, aimed at addressing the socio-economic impact of the protracted conflict. The fund will support the reconstruction of critical infrastructure, including roads, healthcare, education, markets, irrigation systems and security installations.

Government further appealed to traditional authorities, political leaders, youth groups, civil society organisations and residents to support the peace-building and reconciliation process in the spirit of unity, restraint and patriotism.

It expressed gratitude to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Nayiri, the Bawku Naba and all stakeholders whose cooperation and commitment contributed to what it described as a historic mediation process.
