The sixth Ghana UK Based Achievement (GUBA) Awards will be launched on Friday, April 21, 2017 at the British High Commissioner’s residence in Accra while the main event is slated for Saturday June 3, 2017, at the Intercontinental Hotel O2 London.

The sixth GUBA Awards ceremony would commemorate Ghana’s 60th anniversary with tributes to historical national achievements 60 years after independence.

A statement issued by the British High Commission said the launch will follow a dinner reception where the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin, would host chief executives and high profile government officials at his residence on the same day.

According to the Head of Public Relations, Marketing and Sponsorship, George Ameyaw, the focus of the awards for the past six years had been on the exploration and acknowledgement of talent and far reaching accomplishments within the British Ghanaian community.

“The Ghana launch adheres to GUBA’s aim of solidifying the relationship within Ghana and its citizens in the diaspora. It aims to strengthen the relationship between the UK and Ghana and in turn, increase trade relations and development,” he added.

About 40 individuals had been nominated in seven categories for the awards this year, including Animator of the Year Award, Professional of the Year Award, Charity of the Year Award, Ghanaian Alumni Award, Made in Ghana Product Award, Business Start Up of the Year Award and Efie Ne Fie Award as well as 11 black awards would be given out on the night as an acknowledgement for excellence.

This year’s nominees list include animator of the Year Award: Comfort Arthur, Francis Y Brown, Cycil Jones Abban and Indigene Bros.

Speakers at the launch includes Steven Gray, Chief Executive Officer of Atuabo Free Port and Mr Benjamin.

Performing at the launch would is the award-winning singer, Wiyaala.

Tickets for the GUBA Awards could be purchased at www.gubaawards.co.uk.

The GUBA Awards are organised bi-annually to recognise and celebrate outstanding individual and group achievement within the British Ghanaian community.
