EIB Network journalist Hajia Fati Karim has won the Excellence in Health Systems Accountability Reporting Award at the maiden edition of the Western Regional Media and Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Awards.
The award recognises her commitment to health journalism and reporting that promotes accountability within the health sector while highlighting challenges affecting healthcare delivery and communities.
Hajia Fati Karim received the award at a ceremony organised by the Western Regional Chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
Held under the theme “Reporting Progress, Investing in People,” the ceremony brought together journalists, media practitioners, corporate institutions, government representatives and other stakeholders to celebrate excellence in journalism and recognise corporate initiatives contributing to the development of the Western Region.
The recognition adds to Hajia Fati Karim’s growing body of work in health reporting, with her stories focusing on critical issues affecting healthcare delivery and the wellbeing of residents in the region.
Each award recipient received a citation and a laptop in recognition of their outstanding contribution to journalism.
The ceremony also featured the recognition of three veteran media practitioners for their longstanding contribution to journalism and the development of the Western Region.
The GJA Western Regional Chapter said the recognition was aimed at preserving the history and legacy of journalism while inspiring younger practitioners to uphold the values of professionalism, integrity and public service.
The theme of the awards, “Reporting Progress, Investing in People,” underscores the critical role of the media in highlighting development, amplifying community concerns and holding duty-bearers and institutions accountable.
It also highlights the importance of corporate social investment in improving livelihoods through interventions in areas including education, healthcare, infrastructure, skills development and community development.
