The Ghana Meteorological Agency has warned that the harmattan will worsen this week which is likely to increase the chances of fire outbreaks as a result of poor handling of open fire.

“From our fire monitoring charts and other meteorological parameters, there is a very high probability of fire outbreaks due to careless handling of open fires,” the Agency said in a statement.

The agency also cautioned Gas Station operators and the general public to be mindful of naked fires.

“The Liquefied Petroleum Gas operators and the general public are advised to be; mindful of naked fires and cautious of lighting fires in and around forests, farmlands and open areas without extended fire belt unattended to,” the statement said.

It added, that, “the atmosphere will remain very dry and hazy with a drastic reduction in visibility values of less than 1 Km to a little above 3 km will be observed.”

The agency noted that this condition will last till Saturday, February 16.
