‘He Is Not Smart at All’ – NDC Slams Prof. Sarpong’s Poll Projecting Bawumia at 49.1%, Mahama at 45.8% Ahead of December Elections

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has vehemently rejected the latest poll conducted by Associate Professor of Statistics and Director of Research and Innovation at Kumasi Technical University, Prof. Smart Sarpong. The poll, which was conducted ahead of the December elections, shows Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leading the race with 49.1%, while Former President John Dramani Mahama of the NDC is trailing with 45.8%.

According to Prof. Sarpong, the poll indicates that while the NDC is ahead in 9 constituencies and the NPP is leading in the other 9, neither party is projected to win the necessary 50% +1 vote to secure an outright victory. This suggests that a run-off will be required to determine the next President.

Speaking on Starr Today with Joshua Kodjo Mensah and Tututwaa Danso, the Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the NDC Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer criticized the poll, dismissing it as unfounded and lacking in credibility.

He argued that the polls methodology and results had no factual basis and could not be trusted.

“He is not smart at all. I expected his work to reflect the intelligence his name suggests, but he’s clearly not doing a good job here. He should have just come out and said that his party, the NPP, has already won the election. In research, you don’t hide your methodology. Such a biased report should not be given any credibility. He should have provided the sample size and outlined all the areas surveyed. When a party’s campaign isn’t going well, they resort to tactics like this to tarnish others’ reputations.”

“We don’t have time for such nonsense. We are winning this election in the first round with a margin of 54 percent. Credible polls and researchers are pointing to Mahama as the winner of this year’s election,” he added.

However, the Political Aide to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Akbar Yussif Rohullah Khomeini, welcomed the poll, expressing confidence in the results and the prospects for Dr. Bawumia in the upcoming elections.
