Two distinguished female lawyers have made history by securing the two topmost leadership positions of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA).
Mrs Efua Ghartey and Victoria Barth are now in the history books after being elected by their colleagues as National president and vice president of GBA respectively.
On Wednesday, September 11, 2024 Mrs Ghartey emerged victorious of the presidential race after securing 1,278 votes representing 54.22 % of the total cost cast as against 1,060 votes secured by Agbesi Dzakpasu (44.79 %).
She now will take over from Yaw Acheampong Boafo, the outgoing president of the GBA who did not seek a re-run after his three-year term.
Mrs. Victoria Barth, another highly accomplished legal professional also made history as she was elected as the second female National Vice president of the GBA. The first female National Vice was Mrs. Felicia Gbesemete Esq.
The lecturer at the Ghana School of Law, polled 1,624 votes representing 68.90% as against her contender, Ebenezer A. Kwaitoo who garnered 495 votes representing 21%.
The outcome of Wednesday’s GBA elections means that, for the first time in history of the profession body, two female lawyers have been elected as National President and Vice of GBA, the two topmost slot available at the association.
