Kanayo O Kanayo vows to continue acting until age 90

Nollywood veteran, Anayo Modestus Onyekwere popular known as Kanayo O Kanayo has unveiled his ambition to remain active in the film industry until he reaches the age of 90. The 62-year-old actor shared his aspirations during a preview of an upcoming episode of the Honest Bunch podcast.

In a candid discussion, Kanayo addressed various pressing issues within Nollywood. He voiced concerns about what he perceives as an “influx of untalented women” into the industry, asserting that many are desperate to act without possessing the natural talent required. “You don’t come to Nollywood to learn how to act. Acting is natural. If it’s not in you, go and sell crayfish,” Kanayo declared.

Kanayo also touched on sensitive topics such as drug abuse and homosexuality within the industry. He expressed worry about the prevalence of drug use among actors and described homosexuality as “unnatural” behavior, urging for a purge of these elements from Nollywood. “For men who have unnatural… When I say unnatural in law, you should understand it to be when man dey sleep with man and all those things. Of course, it happens in the industry,” he said. “Are you aware most artistes are on drugs?” he added.

This isn’t the first time Kanayo has spoken out about the challenges facing Nollywood. Last year, he claimed that some individuals joined the industry to “sell sex” and cautioned against it becoming a platform for the sex trade and homosexuality.

Despite these concerns, Kanayo remains dedicated to his craft and has introduced his first son, Clinton, to filmmaking, indicating his desire to pass on his legacy to the next generation. “I want a situation where at 70, 75, 80, 90, I will still be acting,” he stated.

Kanayo’s comments have sparked conversations about the direction and integrity of Nollywood, highlighting the veteran actor’s enduring influence and commitment to the Nigerian film industry.
