Lecturer targets 58K votes to capture New Juaben South seat for NDC

The 2020 Parliamentary candidate of National Democratic Congress, Dr. Martin Offei Otu says he is targeting at least 58,000 valid votes cast in 2024 to snatch the New Juaben South for the NDC if given the nod again by delegates.

“I am targeting that I am going to do 58,000 votes in New Juaben South in 2024 and it is going to happen. I am the right person for this job. I live here I work here I understand the dynamics more than any other person who is going to come from somewhere else,” the Lecturer at Koforidua Technical University stated.

New Juaben South constituency has remained stronghold of the New Patriotic Party since 1992.

In the 2020 parliamentary election, Michael Okyere Baafi of the ruling NPP secured 47,862 (69.90%) votes against NDC’s candidate Dr. Martin Otu Offei, Lecturer who polled 20,164 votes representing 29.45%.

Okyere Baafi who succeeded Dr. Mark Asibbey Yeboah as Member of Parliament campaign with many promises dubbed “The New Koforidua Project”.

However there is mix reaction among constituents about the performance of the MP so far. Whilst some constituents believe the MP has failed others believe his performance is satisfactorily.

Salasie Amuzu and Ebenezer Akore, both New Juaben South Constituency chairman and Executive member of NDC believe the MP has performed poorly, and that, does not deserve another term.

However, New Juaben South Women’s organizer of the ruling NPP Regina Bempong says Micheal Okyere Baafi has performed well in his first term therefore will win his second term bid to retain the seat.

“Hon. Okyere Baafi has done well in just two years .Support for BECE candidate every year, distribution of computers to school, supporting health , employment for the youth ,built police posts and many others .For the roads they are gradually being tarred .So Hon Baafi has performed impressively” Regina Bempong told Starr News.

Two Aspirants Eric Wadie a Contractor/Businessman, and Dr. Martin Otu Offei, Lecturer at KTU have filed to contest the parliamentary primaries to ultimately unseat the incumbent NPP MP in New Juaben South.

Dr. Martin Otu Offei who contested with the MP in 2020 told Starr News “the candidate that can win the seat for New Juaben South is Dr. Martin Otu Offei because you look around and you can see some of my students around .Somebody who have been transforming lives of young people for 22 years changing the lives and changing the aspirations of these people. So you see that a lot of young people are now going to understand that this is what we have to do to be able to move forward so I want young people to understand they are the majority and it is important that they all come on board”.

He added “they have a candidate in the person of Martin Otu Offei. I stand for young people and that is what I have been doing for the past 22 years so if you are a young person and in 2024 you cast your vote in the other way round you have destroyed yourself because up till now what jobs have they created for them, nothing”.
