Mahama land saga: Nitiwul unfit to be Minister – Inusah

A Former Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Inusah Fuseini has descended heavily on defense Minister Dominic Nitiwul following his accusation that ex-president John Mahama grabbed military lands.

According to him, the defense Minister goofed in his allegation against the ex-president thus lacking the acumen to continue to hold his portfolio.

“…He has no basis at all [to make such claim]…in fact…what he said clearly exposed him as a person unfit to be a minister of defense,” the Tamale Central lawmaker told Starr News’ Parliamentary correspondent Ibrahim Alhassan in an  exclusive interview.

Fuseini continued that “people look up to Nitiwul for leadership and direction” and that his pronouncement on the former president without a doubt robs him of that.

“He is the Minister for one of the most sensitive institutions…it needs rational thinking human beings to run it,” he said.

The accusation

Nitiwul who is also the lawmaker for Bimbilla in a media tirade Thursday December 7, 2017 accused ex-president Mahama of illegally occupying a military land and thus advised him to vacate the “disputed” land.

According to him, Mahama’s continuous occupation of the said land does not augur well for a former Commander-in-chief of the Ghana Armed Forces.

“…It’s a dent on him,” Nitiwul pointed at the media encounter.

He continued “It’s not good for him. He was a president and he should leave there. He should have protected the Armed Forces. I’m talking of former President Mahama and I won’t say no more. That can’t happen any longer; not under this watch.

“I’m advising him that if I were him I won’t live there.”

Mahama doesn’t own military land

But in a swift reply the office of the former president dismissed the accusation as a figment of his imagination.

In a statement the office said “We presume that the minister’s irresponsible claim is in respect of the current residence of the former first family. President Mahama has not appropriated or acquired any land or property belonging to the military and which he is currently occupying.”

“This Office is appalled at the minister’s unfounded accusation because any serious Defence Minister, with the Military Intelligence apparatus under him would know that President Mahama has no claim to the ownership of the land of the property in which he resides,” added the statement.
