Former President John Dramani Mahama has taken a swipe at Ghana’s judiciary, calling out what he calls a gross injustice done to the people of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi (SALL) who have been left without parliamentary representation since 2020.
He accused the judiciary of failing these communities indicating that, it is an unforgivable breach of their rights and one that tarnishes the foundations of Ghana’s democracy.
The opposition NDC’s presidential candidate made these remarks in Akpafu in the Guan constituency during his campaign tour of the Oti region.
“The justice system must be consistent if it is inconsistent, it is not fair to the people of this country, because you can’t treat people one way. Four years they can be without a member of parliament, it doesn’t matter, their representation is not important to you. Gyakye Quayson should be out of parliament for almost two years it doesn’t matter because the Assin North people are not your people.
“We believe that injustice was done to the people of SALL as it is called a cardinal sin of the Fourth Republic and never again must this happen, the right of everybody in Ghana is important and everybody must be equal before the law. The people of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe are not inferior citizens of Ghana, Mahama stated.
