Retired Captain Denis Mahama, the father of the late Major Maxwell Mahama has called on Ghanaians attending a vigil in honour of his son Thursday June 8 to be “sober, reflect and pray for him.”

The vigil will begin at 7pm at the Arakan Mess, Burma Camp and is being organized by the Ghana Armed Forces in partnership with the Excellence in Broadcasting (EIB) Network – operators of Starr 103.5 FM.

The hierarchy of the military service and government officials are expected to be in attendance. Also, Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale and gospel musician SP Kofi Sarpong are expected at the event.

Speaking Wednesday June 7 on Morning Starr, retired Captain Mahama said the vigil will be used to honour the memory of “our son.”

According to him, he expects Ghanaians attending the event “to be very sober and reflect over his [late Major Mahama] life and pray for him. Pray for the country that never again should such a thing befall the country. I mean that no human being in Ghana should ever suffer this kind of calamity. That we should pray heavily at this vigil.”

Mahama’s widow barely talks

Late Major Mahama was brutally lynched and charred to death a week ago after he was allegedly mistaken for an armed robber.

He was with the 5 Infantry Battalion of the Ghana Armed Forces, Burma Camp Accra but on detachment duties at Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region where he gruesomely murdered by residents there.

Since the gruesome murder of the late major Mahama, his widow, Barbara Mahama is yet to recover, disclosed his father.

According to him, Mrs. Mahama and her deceased husband were very close until his unfortunate demise and that since the grisly incident she barely utters a word.

“Barbara is yet to recover. Barbara is yet to recover. They were very very close. So she is yet to recover. But thanks to God she is still holding herself, picking herself up together,” said retired Captain Mahama Wednesday on Morning Starr.

“She doesn’t talk. She cannot talk,” he added.

When the host Francis Abban probed: “You mean since this incidence happen she has not uttered a word?” He replied “very little.”
