The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM1, “is ready” to have his evidence in defense to charges taken electronically if the video system at the Court is ready, his lawyers have told the High Court in Accra.

NAM1 was expected to testify electronically on Wednesday after the Court had rejected a request to adjourn the case for three weeks.

On Tuesday, March 30, the Court, presided over by Justice Sedinam Awo Kwadam, directed that NAM1 should be prepared for electronic evidence.

Per a letter in the possession of the Court signed by a medical officer, NAM1 is said to be unwell and is to stay away from “maximum physical exertion” for three weeks.

But, the Court rejected the request to the Court to adjourn the case for three weeks and instead directed that his evidence would be taken electronically.

When the case was called on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, Enoch Anhwere Afuakwah, holding brief for Paa Joy Akuamoah, for NAM1 (1st Accused) and Menzgold (2nd Accused), said NAM1 is ready for the electronic evidence.

Counsel said, their checks indicated that the video system at the Court was not ready.

Information from the IT Department of the Court indicated that, the video conferencing unit of the Court would rather be ready on April 16, 2026.

With this information, Justice Kwadam adjourned the case, and on behalf of the parties, wished NAM1, said to be unwell, a speedy recovery.

NAM1 (A1), and his two companies – Menzgold Ghana Limited (A2) and Brew Marketing Consult (A3) – are answering questions on 35 out of 39 counts of charges.

The charges include selling gold without a license, operating a deposit-taking business without a license, inducement to invest, 19 counts of defrauding by false pretenses, seven counts of fraudulent breach of trust, and gold laundering contrary to statutes.

Prosecution had closed its case after calling nine witnesses with the Court ordering him to open his defence to answer to 35 out of 39 counts of charges.

So far, NAM1 is giving oral testimony and I was expected in Court for continuation.
