MTN Ghana Ltd. has donated assorted drinks; cash and airtime to support the 2024 Bonwire Kente festival slated to come off from 14th to 20th October, 2024.

MTN Northern Ghana Head of General Sales Simon Amoh led a delegation from MTN to present the items in a short ceremony at the Bonwire palace

Addressing the chiefs and authorities, Mr. Simon Amoh reiterated the importance the brand attaches to sharing in the cultural diversity and unique festivities of the country.

He noted, “MTN is an African Company and in Africa, our culture defines us. Festivals like this also add to the definition of us as Africans.”

“In line with the kente festival of the Bonwire People we are here to support them in drinks, cash and airtime for the kingmakers to stay connected as they make their calls, have drinks to refresh people and have money to do any other expenses they require at any point in time,” Simon added.

He pointed out that the company continues to support traditional calendar festivities recounting recent donations for the Asogli Yam Festival, the Oguaa Fetu Afahye and the ongoing Kobine Festival.

The Chief of Bonwire Nana Bobie Ansah II commended MTN for continually associating with and supporting the Bonwire Kente Festival.

He explained that the Festival has played a major role celebrating the origins of the Kente Cloth and preserving the history of the traditional cloth whose mythical roots are told to have emanated from Bonwire in the 16th century.

Nana Bobie Ansah extended special invitation to MTN for the 19th October grand durbar which will witness rich cultural display of the Kente Cloth, a reminiscence of the history of Kente as well as solidarity messages from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Arts and other special invited dignitaries.

He indicated that invited guests will be treated to a dinner and funfair later that evening with a thanks given service scheduled for Sunday the 20th of October 2024.

Acknowledging the invitation, the Northern Ghana Head of General Sales for MTN, Simon Amoah pledged to deploy MTN’s digital solutions to support the Kente Industry which is the mainstay of the people of Bonwire.

The Bonwire Kente festival has historically enjoyed huge patronage of its festive activities including Exhibition and display of rich Ghanaian Kente, clean-up exercises, cross country race, cycling, musical concerts, symposiums, the Kente Obaasima (Beauty Contest), initiation rites and sporting events.
