The National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (NCPTAs) has commended President John Dramani Mahama for directing the full reinstatement of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) across all pre-tertiary institutions in Ghana.
NCPTAs in a statement dated Thursday, July 17 expressed deep gratitude to both President Mahama and the GES, calling the reinstatement a bold and timely intervention to revitalize stakeholder engagement in Ghana’s education sector.
The statement noted, “The National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (NCPTAs) wishes to express its heartfelt appreciation to the President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, for his timely and progressive directive which has led to the full reinstatement of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in all pre-tertiary schools across the country.”
“We further commend the Ghana Education Service (GES) for its swift action in operationalizing this directive and instructing heads of institutions to immediately implement the reactivation of PTAs nationwide.”
The Council further assured parents, educators, and the general public of its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the reactivated PTA system.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) in a statement issued on Thursday, July 17, 2025 directed all public Senior High, Technical, and STEM schools to reactivate their PTA structures with immediate effect.
The move reverses the earlier policy that replaced PTAs with Parent Associations (PAs), which excluded teachers and weakened collaborative efforts in school governance and student welfare.
Education stakeholders had long criticized the exclusion of teachers, arguing that it hampered coordination and diluted the collective impact of school-community partnerships.
The Council called on parents, teachers, and administrators to embrace this renewed mandate and unite in pursuit of improved educational outcomes for every Ghanaian child.
“Going forward, the Council will work closely with the GES and school authorities to ensure that PTA activities are aligned with best practices, guided by sound financial accountability frameworks, and focused solely on the welfare and educational success of the Ghanaian child.”
