NDC will examine fresh voter register because of EC’s IT issues – Dr. Tanko Rashid

The Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Tanko Rashid Computer, has expressed concerns over the integrity of the voter register due to the ongoing issues with the Electoral Commission’s (EC) IT systems. He emphasized the need for a forensic audit and a thorough investigation into the fresh voter register being provided by the EC.

Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, he reiterated the NDC’s continued demand for an audit of the EC’s IT infrastructure, while also highlighting the party’s reservations regarding the new voter register.

“And so we are not abandoning the call of auditing of the IT system or the register. The register, yes, they passed. They have taken moves and they have given us a fresh register of which they say this week we are likely to have it.”

Despite the release of the new register, Dr. Tanko stressed that the NDC will thoroughly scrutinize it.

“Now that they have admitted to all their problems, the electoral commission, and indicated they are giving us a fresh register, we are good to go with it, but we will have to investigate it very further. Investigation or examination of the IT system. So that we see how they work. Because the electoral commission themselves indicated that their IT system is vulnerable.”

Dr. Tanko also noted that the EC has conceded that their IT systems are vulnerable, which reinforces the need for a deeper examination.

“In fact, we prefer another solution to the IT system. That’s indicating that we demand a multi-stakeholder and inter-party investigation.”

He continued, “If we pick it, we will go through it. They should also do their exhibition. They said they are doing online exhibition.”

“We will do offline exhibition. And to make sure that people go back to check that all their data is intact. Everybody’s name is in there. Nobody has deleted anybody’s name or transferred anybody’s name illegally. That is what we are looking at,” Dr. Tanko said.
