The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced that it has paid more than GHC1.5 million for its free dialysis programme since June. On August 22, 2024, the NHIA shared that they recently made an additional payment of GHC1,001,329.00 to cover dialysis services for July and August, with some of the funds going toward September.
This programme is part of the government’s efforts to help people with kidney issues by providing free dialysis at six major hospitals. These hospitals include Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH), Efia Nkwanta Regional Hospital (ENRH), Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH), Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH).
With this latest payment, the total amount spent on the free dialysis programme since it started is now GHC1,588,565.00. This shows the government’s dedication to reducing the financial burden on patients who need regular dialysis treatment.
