NIB’s alleged report will reflect NPP’s position not December polls – Prof. Adu-Gyamfi

The Head of History and Political Science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Prof. Samuel Adu Gyamfi says the alleged National Investigation Bureau (NIB) survey results could be a true reflection of the governing New Patriotic Party’s position but won’t work in the December polls.

The NIB survey indicated that the Energy Minister Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh was widely preferred among party members to be the running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia garnering 76.2 percent of respondents while Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, garnered 10.16 of the responses.

With barely 6 months to the general elections in December, Dr. Bawumia is yet to announce his running mate, a situation many have described as worrying.

Sources within the NPP however say the announcement will come by the end of this month.

Speaking on Starr Today with Joshua Kodjo Mensah, Prof. Adu Gyamfi stated that the signs could be accurate within their internal mechanisms.

“It is critical that at this time of the day when you have NIB coming out with this particular percentage, I can tell you on authority that the signs of it could be accurate within their own internal mechanisms but for me, it doesn’t speak necessarily to the future of the NPP itself in terms of whether they will loss or win. You need an individual whose personality powers over the party and can easily be embraced by floating voters”.

He added that the choice of a running mate should be someone without Skeletons.

“You must get a personality that is all-embracing and that is seen by the masses in a particular way and a particular light.”

“You need a running mate who is less soiled and has few skeletons in his or her compound. Somebody who can easily be embraced.”

“Somebody who if NDC wants to paint black may find it difficult to do so and might have to conjure many things to no avail except for the fact that eight years might give them leverage if they work hard.” He continued

This survey by the NIB has sparked controversy with many questioning the basis.

Former Chair of the People’s National Convention(PNC) Bernard Mornah argued that the national security outfit should concern itself with the Flag bearers of political parties who could win power and not a political exercise.
