Flagbearer aspirant and former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, has secured the number one spot on the ballot paper ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) much-anticipated presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.
The NPP, on Friday, October 10, 2025, held a balloting exercise for all five aspirants at the party’s headquarters in Accra.
Some analysts believe Mr. Agyapong’s position on the ballot gives him a psychological edge in the race.
Former Minister for Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, followed in second place, while former Vice President and widely considered frontrunner, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, picked the third position.
Former Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, drew the fourth and fifth positions respectively.
The process, supervised by the party’s National Elections Committee, was conducted in line with internal electoral guidelines issued on July 29.
The aspirants have already begun nationwide tours, engaging delegates as they intensify their campaigns ahead of the January 31, 2026 contest that will determine who leads the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
