Ofosu Ampofo hasn’t met CID – NDC

The National Democratic Congress has dismissed media reports that its National Chairman went against the advice of the party and met officials of the Police CID over the invitation extended to him on Wednesday.

Media reports suggest Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo defied the Council of Elders of his party and arranged a secret meeting with the Police, where is believed to have had engagements with them.

However in a statement, the NDC said such reports are false and baseless. The statement said the legal of the chairman, instead, sent a letter to the CID and turned down a request by the CID boss to meet them in the company of their client.

“The National Democratic Congress has sighted a publication currently on Ghanaweb in which it is reported that its National Chairman, Hon. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has ignored the advice of the party and honoured the invitation extended to him by the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police on Thursday May 9. 2019. This publication is totally false and that Hon. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has not dishonoured his own party by meeting with the CID, nor does he intend to do so.

“For the record, the legal team of the party delivered its own letter on the invitation to the leadership of the CID on Thursday May 9, 2019. The secretary of the CID Director, Mrs. Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, elected to receive her boss’ copy of the letter from the legal committee declining the invitation in front of Television cameras. Another copy was deposited at the secretariat of the Inspector General of the Police. Later in the same day, the CID Director General telephoned the legal team and asked for a meeting with the team together with Hon Ofosu-Ampofo. This request was flatly rejected.
On Friday May 10, 2019, the legal team had a meeting with the leadership of the CID. Chairman Ofosu-Ampofo was not in that meeting.

“It is unfortunate that such a scurrilous and misleading story should find its way into the public domain through such a medium. Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo is a faithful servant of the National Democratic Congress and intends to continue as its Chairman based on the interests of the party. By this statement, the party is therefore requesting its teeming supporters and all well-meaning Ghanaians to ignore that publication,” the statement signed by the party’s Communications Director Kakra Essamuah said.
