The Circuit Court in Accra presided by His Honour Mr Emmanuel Marvin Essandoh has remanded an Okada driver and into Police for robbery.
The two, James Annan and Ebenezer Tortor, have been charged with three counts of charges namely, conspiracy to commit robbery, an attempt to commit robbery and carrying of an offensive weapon contrary to Section 206 (1) of the criminal and offences Act 29.
They both pleaded not guilty to the charges before the Circuit Court and have since been remanded to reappear on May 5.
Brief facts
The brief facts of the case as presented to the court by the prosecution led by Inspector Eric Pobee were that the complainant, Augustina Animwaah is a seamstress whereas the accused persons James, a commercial motor rider (Okada) and Ebenezer Tortor, a fisherman respectively.
According to him, on April 25, 2020, in the early hours of the day, at about 4:30 am, accused persons met at T-Gardens at Chorkor and conspired to go on stealing expedition.
Inspector Pobee added that on the same day at about 6:00 am, the complainant who is a resident at Awudome Estate together with witness Alice Jepodoh were walking to work at North Kaneshie and upon reaching a place closer to St Theresa’s Catholic Church at Awudome, the accused persons on a Royal Motorbike with the registration number M20GR9695 suddenly stopped and the pillion rider, Ebenezer Tortor alighted and quickly pulled a knife which he had concealed in his shorts on the complainant demanding for her mobile phone and money.
The prosecutor further told the court that, “the complainant in her quest to run for her dear life fell down and the accused pursued her on the ground with a knife.”
He explained that “both the witness and the complainant shouted for help which attracted some sympathisers and two police officers to come to her aid.
“The police officers,” he said “then arrested the accused persons together with the exhibit (knife) to the police station for investigation.
He said they admitted the offence in their respective cautioned statement and after investigations, they were brought before this court.
