Chairperson of the NDC National Youth Working Committee, Emmanuel Okai Mintah, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), promising to champion opportunities for young party members and strengthen the party’s Youth Wing ahead of the 2028 general elections.
His declaration comes as the NDC prepares for its national executive elections, scheduled for December 19, as part of the party’s reorganisation roadmap.
In a statement, Okai Mintah said his decision to contest is rooted in his years of dedicated service to the party and his commitment to ensuring that young members benefit from the NDC’s return to government.
Describing the NDC as his “life’s work,” he said he has devoted his entire adult life to building the party from the grassroots to the national level.
“People often ask me why I am running for National Youth Organizer, and why now? My answer is simple: It is time for action,” he stated.
Okai Mintah cited his role as Chairperson of the National Youth Working Committee and Head of Operations for the National Youth Wing Campaign during the 2024 general elections, noting that the Youth Wing played a key role in mobilising support for President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC.
He argued that the office of the National Youth Organizer should go beyond ceremonial functions and focus on securing employment and creating other opportunities for young party supporters.
“The National Youth Organizer must firmly and relentlessly push our appointees to create real opportunities for the NDC youth base. That responsibility cannot be treated as a part-time duty or a ceremonial title,” he said.
As part of his vision, Okai Mintah pledged to establish a Correspondence Desk to receive complaints, concerns, and requests from members of the Youth Wing and ensure prompt action is taken on their issues.
He also promised to deepen engagement with branches of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) and other youth structures nationwide to strengthen grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2028 general elections.
According to him, a disciplined, organised, and responsive Youth Wing will be crucial to securing another electoral victory for the NDC.
He further pledged to engage government appointees regularly to ensure they create opportunities for young party members.
“I will carry your concerns directly to our appointees, advocate for opportunities for all NDC youth, and ensure our voices are heard and acted upon without excuses,” he assured.
Okai Mintah concluded by appealing to delegates and party members to support his candidature when nominations officially open, promising to build a Youth Wing defined by efficiency, innovation, influence, and sustainability.
