Opoku Prempeh called me “stupid, mad” – Suhuyini

The Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini has alleged that the Education Minister and Member of Parliament for Manhyia North Mathew Opoku Prempeh called him “stupid” and a “mad man” in Parliament on Thursday contrary to denials by the minister.

According to Suhuyini, the education minister’s attack on him, moments after Mahama Ayariga apologized to the Speaker over his allegations of bribery were unprovoked and unwarranted.

The Manhyia North MP had in a statement on Friday denied claims that he referred to Suyuhini as a “fool” but a 40 second video making the rounds clearly shows Hon. Opoku Prempeh gesturing to someone on the minority side as a “mad man”.

Speaking on Morning Starr Monday, Suyuhini told host Francis Abban that he was the target of Hon. Opoku Prempeh’s insults and gestures.

According to him, he was shocked at the behavior of the Education Minister since he had done nothing wrong to merit such insults and attacks.

“Hon. Opoku-Prempeh started calling me names and abusing me verbally for reasons best known to him…the 7th parliament has no seniors because we were all sworn in on the same day… I said nothing at all to Hon. Opoku-Prempeh to trigger that reaction from him,” Suhuyini said.

According to Hon. Suhuyini, some majority members treat some of the newcomers in parliament with disdain and contempt hence the unprovoked insults from the Education Minister.

“Sometimes I am unable to explain why your presence and appearance annoys some others in the house…there is a reason why a parliament is dissolved and another is sworn in…being a new comer in parliament does not make one less human,” Suhuyini added.

The former Radio Gold Journalist also stated that he was appalled by the report from the Ghartey committee that investigated the parliament bribery allegations.

According to him, his written evidence to the committee was conspicuously missing from the report presented to parliament describing the entire process as a “charade”.
