Parliament will hold the fifth meeting of its fourth session at the Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), Today, October 15, 2024. This significant event in the legislative calendar comes as Parliament temporarily relocates due to ongoing renovations in its main chamber.
Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, announced the venue change in a September 30, 2024 statement, noting that the move was necessary “to ensure uninterrupted legislative activities.” MPs are reconvening after a brief break, with this session expected to address key national matters.
Among the pressing issues, Parliament is set to deliberate on vital bills and agreements, including those impacting Ghana’s development agenda. Notably, during an emergency sitting at the Dome, Parliament recently approved a $250 million World Bank loan aimed at supporting the Energy Sector Recovery Programme. This approval followed an initial rejection of the loan proposal prior to the recess.
The emergency session on September 3 was pivotal in securing financial support for the country’s energy sector. The government described the loan as crucial for reviving the energy sector and aiding economic recovery.
The recall of Parliament highlights the urgency of ensuring that critical financial agreements are in place to support national development projects.
As Parliament resumes today, the focus will be on whether MPs can make swift progress on the country’s development agenda, despite existing challenges.
