President John Dramani Mahama has nominated several individuals to serve as Municipal and Metropolitan Chief Executives (MCEs), in accordance with Article 243 of the 1992 Constitution and the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended by the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2017.
Among the nominees is Ebi Bright, the 2024 National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Tema Central, who has been named the Metropolitan Chief Executive for Tema in the Greater Accra Region.
Her nomination, however, has sparked protests from some residents within the municipality.
In a related development, Ludwig Totimeh, Emmanuel Adotey Allotey, Haruna Mohammed Awal, Abdul Ganiyu Ibrahim, and others have been nominated to serve as MCEs for various districts, including the Tema West Municipality.
These nominations are pending approval by the respective local assemblies.
