Head of Grievance and Negotiations at the Fair wages Cornelius Yawson has cautioned government on the rolling out of policies in a ‘rush’, saying there is the need for adequate sensitization.
He said this approach may stifle the country’s development, as so much money is invested into these policies, which end up unsustainable.
Speaking to Starr Business he said “though they are good, we should not rush through them. We should do enough sensitization before we implement and that one is something that we miss very much in Ghana. We missed it with e-zwich, we missed it with forex rules. Even single spine where I belong because of funding issues, and sensitization wasn’t too good.
“It’s affecting use because we put in so much money and people know that we put in money so as we put in money, nobody is going to add more money for you to correct it or something like that. So it keeps us stagnating. I always call it output and outcome issues, we seem to be happy to roll out programmes which is the output. What is the outcome of it? We hardly ever think about what impact it had on us,” he said.
“And we say we are doing performance management, when you ask around people simply don’t understand the instruments. What level of education and sensitization have we done to make sure people understand so that it will be successful at the end of the day?,” he added.
