A Senior Research Officer at the Center for Democratic Governance (CDD) Paul Abrampah has charged the yet-to-be-established office of the Special Prosecutor not to focus only on cases of corruption recorded in the erstwhile Mahama administration.
Earlier this month, President Akufo-Addo signed into law the bill establishing the office of the Special Prosecutor after it was approved in parliament last year.
The establishment of the office, according to the government will inject discipline into the public sector.
Speaking on Starr Midday News Monday January 8, 2018 with host Kweku Obeng Adjei, Mr. Abrampah stated that in order to effectively stamp out corruption in public sector the office of the Special Prosecutor must be apolitical in discharging his duties.
“[We should be careful] that the office of the Special Prosecutor is not being established only for people who served in the previous administration if indeed we want to make it effective and workable. This is when we can put a halt to potential corruption that will occur in the current administration,” he said.
Former President John Maham declared recently that members of his administration are not worried about the establishment of the Special Prosecutor’s office.
Making mockery of the yet-to-be-established office in an address at the just held NDC Unity Walk in the Brong Ahafo Region, Saturday January 6, 2018, Mr. Mahama said, “We the members of NDC are not scared….whether Special Prosecutor, Attorney General or state Attorney, we are not scared.”
