Reggae Dancehall superstar Stonebwoy has called on the Ghanaian government to take immediate action to ensure the country’s inclusion in the newly announced Grammys Africa initiative. In a series of impassioned tweets, the award-winning artist highlighted the critical role of such global institutions in shaping the narratives of music, arts, and entertainment.
Stonebwoy compared the Grammys’ expansion into Africa to its previous successful venture into the Latin world, emphasizing the importance of being part of this influential platform. “Aligning with them has great benefits and economic potentials for the growth and expansion of Ghana’s creative industry,” he tweeted.
Acknowledging the efforts of advocates like Dentaa Amoateng, Stonebwoy expressed concern that Ghana is on the brink of being excluded from this pivotal initiative. He noted that neighboring countries such as Nigeria, Rwanda, and South Africa have already secured their positions as founding members by finalizing their service agreements.
Stonebwoy posed several pointed questions to the government: “WHY NOT GHANA??? CAN GOV’T NOT RAISE THE MONEY??? CAN GOV’T ASK PRIVATE SEC TO HELP RAISE THE MONEY?? IS IT NOT IMPORTANT TO BE A PART OF THIS?”
