Two managements of a Chinese owned company, Dada Food Company have been arrested for tax evasion.

The arrest follows after an investigation carried out by the Ghana Revenue Authorities (GRA) Tax compliance task force in collaboration with the office of the Senior Minister, Osafo-Maafo.

During the investigations, it was revealed the company, through a process of carding, have been evading taxes in the country.

According to Mr Henry Bradford Sam, Taskforce Coordinator, GRA, the exact amount the company owes the state will be ascertained after an audit is carried out.

In an interview with Starr fm, he said, “Dada Food Company was not doing the right thing, it was suppressing sales, they were massaging figures on the original VAT invoice booklet other than the amount indicated on the original.”

“On Saturday we chanced on those transactions which were being carried to the central region, where you have two vans loaded with their products but the values on the original VAT invoice booklets differ from the duplicate copies. What it means is that, at the end of the month when they are counting for the tax they will dwell on the duplicate copies which has lower values,” he added.

The two arrested are Mr Zian Zey, Manager of Dada Food Company and Ms Rose Chin, Sales Personnel of the company, both Chinese Nationals.

Mr Sam explained that the suspects are helping the GRA and the police with investigation.

He said “we are charging them for making false and misleading statements, suppression of sales and Tax invasion. We have retrieved a total of 71 VAT invoice booklets and 15 waybills together with their tax returns. we are going to submit to a comprehensive Tax audit.

Where there is a short fall between what they declared and what we accessed. We will subject to100 percent penalty according to Section 74 and 81 of the Revenue Administration Act 2016 ACT195, we are going to prosecute them for this offence committed against the state.”
