The Member of Parliament MP for Nadowli/Kaleo Anthony Mwinkaara Sumah has launched a Youth Development Programme in the Nadowli/Kaleo District geared towards opening up more opportunities for the youth in the constituency.
The special intervention by the MP includes an apprenticeship and skills development programme as well as setting up a Tertiary Education Students Support Fund (TESS Fund).
According to the Member of Parliament, the Apprenticeship and skills Development programme will see 155 youth from the constituency benefiting from skills training in the areas of Weaving, Dressmaking, Hairdressing, welding, and fabrication amongst others.
“The 155 beneficiaries will received their training equipment today and then be assigned to masters who will collaborated with the office of the Member of Parliament to execute the project”.
As part of the project the MP donated, 100 sewing machines, 33 looms and 7 hair driers to the beneficiaries to commence their training.
He added that 15 other persons will be attached to the Rural Technology Center for a one year training in welding, metal fabrication, and electricals.
On the TESS Fund, Hon. Anthony Sumah announced that his office has set aside an amount of 100, 000 Ghana Cedis as a funding source for needy but brilliant students in the constituency. He noted that, the fund will be administered by a committee to ensure fair and judicious distribution of the scholarships. He however indicated that for now the TESS program will focus on undergraduate studies and training Institutions.
Hon. Sumah said that youth empowerment is key to changing the economic fortunes of the district, hence his resolve to kick start these two key interventions. He advised the beneficiaries of the apprenticeship program to show commitment and hard work in their training to ensure that the program yields the positive outcome that he envisages.
On her part, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Catherine Lankono, welcomed the intervention and indicated that it will go a long way to aid in poverty alleviation in the district.
She said the Assembly would do it’s part to support such laudable interventions.
