Ghana is set to make its mark on the international stage as Titus Owusu Darko leads the country’s delegation to the 13th Commonwealth Youth Parliament, scheduled to take place in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

Owusu Darko earned the prestigious nomination after steering the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) to a commanding victory in the 2026 Commonwealth Day National Debate, hosted at the Parliament House of Ghana.

UniMAC outperformed strong competitors including the University of Ghana (UG), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University for Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS), University for Development Studies (UDS), and Central University.

Joining him as subordinate speaker is Precious Akos Agrobesa, who also excelled during the national competition.

The duo will join other young parliamentarians from across the Commonwealth to engage in high-level debates, simulate parliamentary proceedings, and deliberate on pressing global issues.

The Commonwealth Youth Parliament is widely recognised as one of the premier platforms for developing the next generation of political leaders.

This year’s edition is expected to focus heavily on climate action, meaningful youth participation in governance, and strategies for economic resilience among member states.

Speaking ahead of the trip, Titus Owusu Darko expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity.

“I am honoured to represent Ghana with integrity, intellect, and the progressive spirit of its youth,” he said.

Precious Akos Agrobesa added that the forum will strengthen her understanding of parliamentary democracy while providing a vital platform to amplify the voices and concerns of young Africans.

The delegation, which also includes Mr. Ahmed Mustapha, Coordinator of Student Parliaments at the Parliament of Ghana’s Public Engagement Department, is expected to depart Accra later this year.

Their participation underscores Ghana’s continued investment in youth leadership development and its growing influence within Commonwealth civic and parliamentary initiatives.

Officials are optimistic that the Ghanaian representatives will deliver impactful contributions to the proceedings and further enhance the nation’s profile in the Commonwealth family.
