Hopeson Adorye has been released by the Dansoman Circuit Court after executing the bail conditions granted him after pleading not guilty to the charge of “publication of false news.”
The Court presided over by Her Honour Halima Abdul El-Lawal Basit earlier on Thursday, May 23, 2024, granted him bail in the sum of GHc20,000 with two sureties.
One of the sureties the Court said should be justified.
The 54-year-old businessman said to be a professional teacher was arrested following his self-confession that he detonated dynamite in the Volta Region during the 2016 elections.
The Court presided over by Her Honour Halima Abdul El-Lawal Basit while granting bail said, the prosecution has an available resource to be able to conduct their further investigations.
In Court on Thursday, May 23, he was arraigned on the charge of Publication of False News, contrary to Sections 208(1) of the Criminal Offenses Act, 1960, (Act 29).
EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent, Murtala Inusah who was at the Court reports that Hopeson Adorye was cheered on by supporters of the Movement for Change while powders were poured on him.
He has since left the Court premises with his lawyers including Yaw Buaben Asamoa and Kweku Attakora Dwomoh.
He is expected back at the Court on June 26, 2024, for a case management conference.
