The Ghana Education Service (GES) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of two Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates who lost their lives in a tragic road accident in the Upper West Region.
The victims, Taufii Ibrahim and Abdul Khalid, were students of Charia Roman Catholic Junior High School.
According to a statement by GES, the incident occurred on Sunday, May 3, while the students were en route to Wa to join their colleagues ahead of the start of the BECE.
“Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has received with profound sorrow the tragic news of the untimely demise of two Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates,” the statement said.
Preliminary reports indicate that the accident claimed their lives before they could participate in the examination, bringing grief to the school and the wider education community.
GES further indicated that it is working with relevant authorities to gather full details surrounding the incident and to identify measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The Service extended condolences to the families of the deceased, their classmates, and the school community.
