Nhyiaeso Member of Parliament, Stephen Amoah has strongly denied allegations of brandishing a firearm, claiming self-defense in response to what he described as a threat.
Dr. Stephen Amoah is alleged to have pulled a gun in self-defense after some of his constituents threatened him with a toy gun at Atasemanso during a campaign tour a week ago.
Speaking to GHOne TV, Mr. Amoah offered his account of the incident, stating that an unknown individual pointed a gun at him, prompting him to draw his own weapon which led the alleged assailant to flee the scene.
The MP dismissed the possibility that the weapon used against him was a toy, questioning the logic of such an action.
He emphasized the seriousness of the situation, referencing the assassinations of prominent politicians J.B. Danquah and Major Mahama, to highlight the potential dangers faced by public figures.
“Somebody I don’t know pointed a gun at me, and I pulled my gun, and he ran away. Why would anyone take a toy gun and point it at an MP? Where is JB Danquah, Mfantseman MP? Where’s Major Mahama?” Amoah questioned. He suggested that the incident was an attempt to derail his campaign and prevent the NPP from securing an election win. “Probably they even did that to distract what we’re doing,” he speculated.
The MP believed that the incident was purported to distract his campaign activities.
“Probably they even did that to distract what we’re doing which I don’t want to, because we’re winning the election, we don’t want anything to come in between us and our victory”, he added.
