Security analyst Adam Bonaa has criticized the appointment of Maame Tiwaa Addo Danquah as the Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), describing it as a misstep.
Speaking on Starr Today with Efia Tutuwaa Danso, Bonaa argued that her appointment was politically motivated and not based on merit or competence.
“It was a mistake because, you see, it’s not for the President to satisfy Maame Tiwaa’s ego. She felt she was too big to take up the position at the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPS). She wasn’t happy with that role, so they felt they had to give her something better. With her political connections, especially as she was associated with the previous government’s women’s organizing wing, they felt the need to appease her,” Bonaa stated.
He further criticized her performance in the role, alleging that she prioritized personal interests over institutional efficiency. He cited her controversial handling of sensitive cases, including public comments about the prosecution of Menzgold CEO Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM1.
“You would have to take a very incompetent person to make some of the public statements she made. For instance, in the NAM1 case, she questioned what charges could be filed against him when it wasn’t her place to determine that. That was for the Attorney General’s office. Such remarks from a public officer handling sensitive matters were completely out of line,” he said.
Bonaa expressed concern about the broader implications of such appointments, emphasizing that roles like the EOCO Executive Director require competence and neutrality, not political considerations.
“Square pegs in round holes don’t fit. No matter how hard you push, it doesn’t work. Her appointment wasn’t about putting the right person in place; it was about satisfying political interests. This undermines the integrity of institutions like EOCO,” he added.
He also criticized the lack of accountability during her tenure, pointing to unresolved cases, such as the vandalism of EOCO property, which he said was not properly investigated.
