A nine member committee has been set up to investigate the Saturday September 9, explosion at Kobina Andoh Krom, at Anto Aboso electoral area in the Shama district.
Members of the committee are Western regional coordinating council, minerals commission, environmental Protection Agency, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Police Service, Ghana health service, NADMO Shama , Works Engineer- Shama and the Assemblymember of the affected area.
They have been tasked by the Western Regional Minister , Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah to within three weeks establish the causes of the explosion as well as verify if the company abided by the safety guidelines and licensing procedures.
Four Ghanaians and one Chinese have has so far died from an explosion that occurred on Saturday September 9, 2023 at the Omni Quarry site at Kobinaanokrom in the Shama District.
Several dismembered body parts have so far been identified.
Eight were sent to Effia Nkwanta regional hospital, 6 have since been discharged and two remain in critical condition after suffering some injuries on their faces.
The explosion had a rippling effect on adjoining communities resulting in damages to buildings and properties in the catchment area.
