Samuel Nartey George, the Minister-designate for Communications, Digitalization, and Innovation, has pledged to conduct a proper and efficient SIM re-registration exercise if approved.
Speaking during his vetting by the Appointments Committee on Thursday, Mr. George criticized the previous registration process, describing it as inefficient and burdensome for citizens. He assured that under his leadership, a new approach would eliminate long queues by leveraging technology.
“We will do a proper SIM re-registration again, and this time, there will be no queues because common sense will prevail, and we will use technology to do it,” he stated.
Mr. George emphasised that the re-registration exercise remains crucial for enhancing national security and preventing fraud, but stressed the need for a more logical and seamless implementation to ensure public convenience.
He further assured the Committee that his Ministry would focus on efficiency and innovation in all digital initiatives, including SIM registration, to build a robust and inclusive telecommunications sector in Ghana. Sam George Vows to Conduct Proper SIM Re-Registration.
