Eighteen factories have received accreditation under government’s One District One Factory initiative. Government is confident of accrediting 50 more factories before the end of the year.
Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, Minister for Information Designate at a Press briefing in Accra said government was fulfilling its campaign promise of collaborating with the Private Sector to implement the 1D1F initiatives aimed at developing industries in the district.
“It is a paradigm that seeks to create jobs at the local level and bring with it the many benefits including Jobs, Incomes and local development. For the avoidance of doubt the NPPs commitment is on page 43 of the party’s manifesto which states that in collaboration with the Private Sector, the NPP will implement the One District one Factory initiative” Oppong-Nkrumah told Journalists.
The Minister said government as indicated in the NPP manifesto was not building the factories on its own add that the Akufo-Addo administration is facilitating the efforts of the Private Sector to establish these factories.
Status
President Akufo-Addo has already visited most if the 18 factories accredited under the 1D1F initiative. Oppong-Nkrumah stated that with the 50 more factories expected to be accredited, that should bring to almost 70 projects as 1D1F enterprises.
He said the initiative has seen about 10 financial institutions commit as much as GH₵4.43 billion in loanable funds to prospective venture capitalists.
