Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has held discussions with Ceris Technologies Commercial Director at Tanger Med, Houmad Elouazzani, on opportunities to advance port digitalisation, strengthen cybersecurity and improve the efficiency of the country’s maritime infrastructure.
The engagement focused on leveraging technology and strategic partnerships to modernise port operations, enhance digital security and build resilient maritime infrastructure to support Ghana’s growing transport and trade needs.
Madam Affo-Toffey, who is also the Member of Parliament for Jomoro in the Western Region, described the discussions as productive, emphasising the importance of exploring innovative solutions to improve port efficiency and protect digital systems within the maritime sector.
Port digitalisation has become increasingly important in modern maritime operations, enabling the streamlining of processes, improved information sharing and the more efficient movement of goods.
As ports become increasingly dependent on digital platforms to manage operations and exchange sensitive information, cybersecurity has also emerged as a critical priority for protecting infrastructure and ensuring operational continuity.
The discussions with Mr Elouazzani provided an opportunity to explore potential areas of collaboration, particularly in deploying technology to improve port management, safeguard digital infrastructure and strengthen the resilience of Ghana’s maritime sector.
Madam Affo-Toffey emphasised that strategic partnerships and technology-driven innovation are vital to the government’s transport and maritime modernisation agenda.
She noted that adopting modern technology and strengthening digital security would be important to improving the performance of Ghana’s ports and positioning the country as a competitive maritime hub in the sub-region.

Ghana’s ports play a significant role in facilitating international trade, supporting economic activity and connecting local businesses to regional and global markets.
Enhancing operational efficiency and protecting port systems are therefore important to efforts to strengthen the country’s maritime competitiveness and respond to evolving demands in international trade.
The engagement with Ceris Technologies forms part of broader efforts to explore innovative approaches to transport and maritime development through international cooperation.
Although the discussions identified potential areas of collaboration, further steps would be required to translate the opportunities explored into concrete initiatives.
Madam Affo-Toffey reiterated the importance of embracing innovation and building strategic relationships to support a more efficient, secure and resilient maritime sector.

The engagement highlights the growing role of digital innovation and international technology partnerships in Ghana’s efforts to modernise its ports and strengthen its position as a maritime and trade hub in West Africa.
