The Electoral Commission has begun the payment of allowances to individuals who were engaged for the 2016 elections by the commission.
According to the Director of Public Affairs of the EC, Eric Kofi Dzakpasu, the ministry has “now released the budget so payment has started”.
Some 200,000 poll officers contracted by the Electoral Commission for the elections have been agitating over the delays in their payment.
Mr. Dzakpasu had earlier attributed the delay in the payment of the allowances, which ranges from GHS800 to GHS1500, to the failure of the Ministry of Finance to release funds to the EC.
