Ranking member and MP for Asawase, Alhaji Mubarak Muntaka, has rubbished claims that the chairman of the Appointments Committee, Mr.  Joe Osei Owusu is being autocratic.

The Minority in Parliament had earlier accused the Chairman of the Appointments Committee of Parliament of behaving like an “autocrat” during proceedings, but in an interview with Nii Arday Clegg on the Morning Starr, the Lawmaker said he does not think the Chairman is being autocratic.

“The Chair is supposed to be firm and take tough decisions but sometimes striking the balance is the issue. I won’t say the Chairperson is being Autocratic..the power is with the Chairperson and we must respect that”.

Wa Central MP Rashid Pelpuo leveled the charge against Mr. Owusu following a fracas between the First Deputy Speaker and his colleague member of the Appointments Committee, Alhassan Suhuyini, of the Minority side of the House.

Mr Owusu cut off Mr Suhuyini, who, at the time, was vehemently protesting against the manner in which he was being handled by the chairman after Mr Owusu had intervened to stop him from asking a question pertaining to a money laundering scandal at the Bank of New York where Energy Minister-designate Boakye Agyarko had worked prior to his resignation.
