The six kindergarten pupils who died at Breman Jamra in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa district after their school building collapsed on them are to be buried today, Thursday February 2.
The incident according to Starr News’ Central regional correspondent Kwaku Baah-Acheamfour, occurred on Tuesday when a dilapidated school building was pulled down leaving just a part that housed the kindergarten pupils leading to the incident which claimed four lives on the spot.
Two others died at the Our Lady of Grace Hospital where the injured were rushed for medical attention.
Three other children who survived the accident are said to be in critical condition and are receiving treatment at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Education Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who was in Gyambra has assured bereaved families of government’s commitment in giving the six deceased kids a benefiting burial.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh who also visited the other injured kids at the Our Lady of Grace Hospital at Breman Asikuma and assured the parents of the victims of government’s decision to foot the bills of all those on admission as a result of the collapsed structure.
He described the accident as unfortunate and pledged government’s commitment in ensuring that such negative occurrences do not happen again in the educational front.
He also bemoaned the lack of cooperation between the education sector and the chiefs in the area, as the chiefs were not even aware of the contractor who was responsible for building the class room to house the kindergarten pupils.
