Black Stars goalkeeper, Richard Ofori has signed a three-year deal with South African side Maritzburg United

The Wa All Stars custodian joins the team from Wa All Stars in the Ghanaian Premier League, with a one-year option in the contract.

The announcement was made on Maritzburg’s social media platforms on Thursday morning.

Ofori, who has previously been on trial with Cape Town City, will add valuable experience at Maritzburg, having represented Ghana at both junior and senior level.

The 23-year-old was part of Ghana’s 2013 Fifa Under-20 World Cup squad, as well as the 2015 All Africa Cup Games. He was called up for the 2016 CHAN qualifiers against Ivory Coast.

Earlier this year, Ofori was part of Avram Grant’s 2017 African Nations Cup squad, but featured just in one game in the tournament which was hosted by Gabon.

Ofori is likely to take the number one jersey at Maritzburg after the club parted ways with Virgil Vries recently, with competition provided by Bongani Mpandle and youngster Lindokuhle Mathebula. Vries represented Namibia at the Cosafa Cup and has been linked with a move to Baroka FC.

The shot stopper kept the post for the Black Stars in last month’s friendly against Mexico and the USA.
