The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper West region is demanding an immediate apology from President Akufo-Addo, accusing him of lying about the Jambusi Water Project.

The President who has been touring the three northern regions of Ghana, told a gathering after commissioning the $51.54 million project in Wa that the project was started by the erstwhile Kufour Administration.

But the NDC in the region has in a statement rejected the comments by the President and describing it as untrue. The party alleged that the Wa water Project is the brain child of Former President Mahama and accused President Akufo-Addo of attempting to rewrite history.

Regional Communications director Issah Kantagyere added in an interview with Starr News’ Kwaku Obeng Adjei that President Akufo-Addo must retract the comments and apologise to the people of the Upper West Region.

“We were thinking that as a president who is for all he could have thanked his predecessor for…securing for the fund and initiating such a wonderful project. He didn’t do that. But rather tried to claim what was not started by them, what they know nothing about. He was trying to rewrite the history of that water project,” he said.

He continued that “the project never started under former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s regime. It was never started. This project was actually started under the leadership of [former president Mahama].”
