Some communicators of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Volta region have declared an indefinite strike over what they described as the “ill-treatment” being meted out to them by some party officers and appointees of government in the region.
The communicators who espouse party and government positions on socio-political discussions in the media, especially on morning radio, said in a communiqué that, they came to “this painful and regrettable decision based on the treatments being meted to us by the Regional Communication Director, the Regional Minister, the Deputy Regional Minister, MMDCEs and other government functionaries in the region.”
The communiqué signed by 21 NPP Regional communicators indicated their resolve “to boycott radio and TV discussions on the 2018 Budget statement delivered by the Finance Minister and other government related discussions until further notice.”
Moses Aglina, one of the aggrieved communicators told Starr News they felt being shortchanged by the NPP regional communication Director, Mr. Filipo Dati, who he claimed, was hoarding resources meant for party and government communication in the region.
”We know the President is doing a lot .. our campaign promises are being fulfilled..so we were very excited with the reading of the 2018 budget, because it has been our hope to go out there and articulate our vision in 2018. You know communication is such a complex thing and we need resources to communicate but the people that were appointed by the President to serve and represent him in the region are not really helping matters. Worse is the regional communication director, Efo Filipo who is shortchanging the communicators and so we’ve withdrawn our services,” he explained
He indicated that the group would only back down on its action if the party national hierarchy and the government intervened.
