Organized Labor is demanding the inclusion of practical policy initiatives in government’s upcoming 2018 budget to address the rising unemployment rate.
The group argues that the unemployment gap has increased steadily over the last few months due to the absence of dedicated efforts and feasible action plans to address the challenge.
Organized labor anticipates that more workers will most likely be laid-off as a result of the non- performance of certain sectors of the economy including textiles.
Their comments come ahead of the presentation of the 2018 Budget statement in parliament.
Speaking Wednesday on Morning Starr, General Secretary of the Ghana Federation of Labor, Abraham Koomson told Francis Abban that: “It is one thing reading a nice budget statement and another thing making sure that all that is contained in the budget is fully implement.”
He added: “…For me I see it something they will read nicely for you…for your ears but [implementation is the problem]. So we don’t want to be hearing these nice sentences and phrases…seriously, maybe we have to fast for 21 days dry fasting and see whether God will intervene.”
According to him, the situation is dire in the textile industry, leading to people losing their jobs.
