A 6-year-old pupil of Christ the king school in Accra has donated GH¢196.70p from her money box to help purchase desks for Yikrugu students in the Upper East Region of Ghana who sit on the floor to study.

The plight of the Yikrugu students came to light last month when GHOne TV reported of how the children lie on their stomachs to learn in classrooms due to the lack of desks.

Touched by the development, Dorothy Nana Ofeiwaa Adjei decided to donate money she has  saved for months to help acquire chairs for the students.

According to the young donor, her decision to give funds from her money box was because the story made her sad.

Lack of chairs and tables in schools in rural Ghana is a major challenge confronting education in the country.
