The Medical and Dental Council has called for the revision of the law allowing suspended medical practitioners to operate during the adjudication process.
The call comes in the wake of the alleged murder charges on the owner of the Advanced Body Sculpture Centre known as Obengfo Hospital after the death of deputy CEO of the NEIP Stacy Offei Darko at the hospital.
Dr. Obeng Andoh who was not registered by the council was operating after appealing his suspension in court while the case is being heard.
Addressing a news conference, chairman of the Medical and dental council Paul Nyame said that the provision in the law should be revered.
“The old law as we had, under that, if a doctor was suspended or struck off, punishment stayed until set aside by a court but now for some reason it has been reversed. If the doctor appeals the punishment is suspended. So if for some reason the case goes on and on and its postponed then then there is a problem. Obeng Andoh’s is one case and we have another one which is in court and its a very serious situation”.
