Barring any major hitches, President Akufo-Addo will announce a female member of the Bench to assume the vacant position of the chairperson of the electoral commission.
The successor of deposed Charlotte Osei, according to Starrfmonline.com sources, has been picked from among members of the judges of the Supreme Court after a thorough consultation and deliberations by President Akufo-Addo.
The decided candidate, according to Starrfmonline.com sources, is favored miles ahead of another contender who is outside the judiciary.
The Council of State has been presented with the name and profile of the judge and the other candidate as a remote alternative.
The President has the opportunity to nominate four commissioners including the chair since two were removed with Mrs. Osei while one other is on retirement.
The President had earlier given the assurance that he will not pick an individual with a political bias to serve at the sensitive position.
“We are not looking for persons who are coming to do a job for the NDC or for the NPP. We are looking for persons who are coming to do a job for Ghana. That is what we are looking for, for the Electoral Commission”.
Mrs. Osei and her two Deputies, Mr. Amadu Sulley and Mrs. Georgina Opoku Amankwah were fired over incompetence and misbehavior after a committee constituted by the Chief Justice found them culpable of allegations of procurement breaches among others.
