Five people have been confirmed dead in a fatal accident at Bunso junction along the Accra to Kumasi Highway of the Eastern region.
Several people according to reports, have sustained life threatening injuries and have been rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The accident occurred Tuesday morning after a Tipper Truck carrying sand failed its break while descending from Asiakwa Junction.
According to reports gathered by Starrfmonline.com, the driver of the Truck was honking to alert drivers of the danger but was ignored. He crashed into two vehicles – a passenger vehicle and a cargo truck – leading to the death of five people on the spot.
According to an eyewitness, a joint rescue team of military, Ambulance Service and Police were at the scene to retrieve the bodies and clear the road.
The Eastern Regional MTTD Commanding Officer, Chief Superintendent Prince Jude Cobbinah confirmed the deaths to Ghone News.
Statistics available indicate that from January to September this year, a total of 293 people have died through road accidents in the region as compared to 270 recorded same period in 2017.
A total of 1, 615 were injured during the same period in 2018 as compared to 1,515 recorded in 2017.
Chief Superintendent Cobbinah explained that within the past three months, 69 persons have died through accidents on the road.”
